Camp Gorham Summer Staff

YMCA Camp Gorham prides itself on the exceptional experience it provides for campers of all ages. The backbone of our camp is our staff! We all are 100% devoted to our campers each session – we model healthy lifestyles, make good personal choices and have a lot of fun! Each summer dynamic individuals fill the roles below to make the magic of camp happen! The staff dashboard application will indicate which positions are still available. A two season commitment is preferred from Central Staff candidates as noted below under each individual position.

Adirondack Village Head: Oversees staff and campers (ages 10 – 12) who reside in the Adirondack Village in High Peaks Cabins; lives in camper cabin; runs weekly village nights and is responsible for cleaning of the village. Must be 21 years of age; two season commitment preferred.

Big Moose Village Head: Oversees male staff and campers (ages 10 -12) who reside in the Big Moose Village: lives in camper cabin; runs weekly village nights and is responsible for cleaning of the village. Must be 21 years of age; two season commitment preferred.

Cabin Counselor:  Lives with children in cabin groups: responsible for day to day living of group including cleaning, hygiene, schedules and fun! Assists in other areas of camp teaching specialty tracks.  Cabin counselors are hired in two categories:  Session Counselors which must be 17 years of age (this position typically works one session in the summer, a two week period.  Session counselors are hired after they have completed the Camp Gorham leadership programs) and Cabin Counselors must be 18 years of age and work the entire summer.

Cleaning Assistant: Works directly with the maintenance department on daily cleaning of camp and laundry service.

Equestrian Staff: Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director assists with lessons, trail rides and horse/barn care. Must have demonstrated lesson and trail ride experience; equestrian staff live with campers and assume the role of a cabin counselor when not assigned to the barn.  Must be 18 years of age.

Frontier Village Head: Oversees staff and campers (ages 13- 16) who reside in the Frontier Village; lives in camper cabin; runs weekly village nights and is responsible for cleaning of the village. Must be 21 years of age; two season commitment preferred.

Head of Campers: Oversees camper needs and is main liaison with parents for camper needs and oversees specifics with counseling staff.  Completes nightly security of camp checking in staff upon arrival from time off.  Must be 21 years of age, pursuing or holding a degree in child psychology or related field a plus.

Kitchen Assistant: Kitchen assistant work under the direction of our professional food service manager in food prep and kitchen clean up. Camp dishes are done daily. Must be 17 years of age.

Land Activities Coordinator:  Substitutes for all land specialty tracks teaching in a variety of areas.  Leads the dining hall each meal.   Assists with evening programs, all-camp programs and open waterfront.  Must be 20 years of age and camp experience preferred.

Leadership Village Head:  Oversees co-ed teen programs ages 13 – 17 who reside in the Leadership village: lives in camper cabin: runs weekly programming for village and is responsible for cleaning on the village.  Must be 21 years of age; two season commitment preferred.

Leadership Counselor: Lives with teen campers in Leadership Village running assigned programs; Counselor in Training, Teen Adirondack Guides and off site tripping programs included. Must have Responding to Emergency current certification and be 21 years of age with valid driver’s license.

Lodge Senior Counselor: Oversees staff and campers (ages 7 – 9) who reside in the Wilderness Lakes Lodge; lives in camper cabin; runs weekly village nights and is responsible for cleaning of the lodge. Must be 20 years of age; two season commitment preferred.

Lumberjack Village Head: Oversees male staff and campers (ages 13- 16) who reside in the Lumberjack Village; lives in camper cabin; runs weekly village nights and is responsible for cleaning of the village. Must be 21 years of age; two season commitment preferred.

Meal Manager: Under the direction of the Food Service Manager responsible for providing meals to campers and staff on a daily basis; completes meal prep, including salad bar and kitchen clean up daily.

Office Manager: Under direction of the Associate Executive Director works in office on registrations, parent communication and customer service. Hands-on supervises the camp store including ordering, cleaning, stocking inventory, sales and accounts. Assists the Executive Director to achieve summer scholarship fund pledge goal through end of session parent asks and email, picture and letter campaigns.

Photographer:   Under direction of Executive Director, is responsible for 100 picture posts daily on website, camp videos, slide shows and camper photos.

Specialty Counselor: Lives in a cabin group and is responsible for assigned daily activities. Assists cabin counselor with day to day living of group including cleaning, hygiene, schedules and fun! Must be 18 years old.

Waterfront Director: Under the direction of the Camp Director oversees every aspect of the waterfront operations including sailing, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, log rolling, fishing, and rowboats on our 400 acre Darts Lake. Must be life guard and WSI certified. Must be 21 years of age and meet NY state requirements for position. The Waterfront Director will ensure that all American Camp Association and NY state health department regulations are met. Two season commitment required.

Water Ski instructor: Under direction of the Waterfront Director takes assigned campers on water ski lessons. Must meet state requirements to drive camp boats.  Current PVO license; boaters safety course and life guard certified recommended. Must be 18 years of age.
